A 23-year-old from Fairfield was arraigned in court Friday, accused of committing a hate crime at an NYU graduation ceremony.

Alexander Stepnowsky is accused of raising a flag with a swastika over a building dedicated to a Jewish school donor.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office say the incident occurred at just before 5 p.m. on May 13.

Officials say that Stepnowsky purposely entered the building with the intent to preform the hate crime.

The Fairfield resident was charged with burglary, aggravated harassment and criminal trespassing.

Stepnowsky was released by his own recognizance and his charges are not eligible for bail with his next court date set for Aug. 4.
