With the Memorial Day weekend underway and many drivers on Connecticut's roads, state police are out in full force.

State Trooper Darren Pavlik was just minutes into his shift on Friday when he pulled over a woman who was driving 72 mph in a 55-mph zone.

Most troopers will write up to 10 tickets per shift during the weekend, according to Pavlik.

Analysts believe that rising incomes and lower gas prices are contributing to more people traveling this year. AAA is projecting that 38 million people will travel 50 miles or more over the long weekend. AAA says that would make this one of the busiest Memorial Day weekends since 2005.

State police don't plan to set up any drunken driving checkpoints in southwestern Connecticut this year, but they say they will be patrolling.
