Police say the state's wrong-way notification system averted what could have been a tragedy and led to an arrest on Saturday.

According to police, Ian Britt tried to enter I-91 in Windsor while traveling the wrong way.

Police say that Britt realized his mistake because of the system but became stuck in the mud while attempting to turn around.

He then failed a field sobriety test once police arrived on the scene.

The wrong-way detection system includes signs that light up when a driver is driving the wrong way. Police are then notified if the driver continues.

Britt was released on $5,000 cash bond and is expected in court on March 15.
