Connecticut Republicans want to crack down on domestic abusers charged with murder after the violent death of a mother in Milford in December.
"We have a call to action. We have an opportunity for change, and we must not let these comprehensive reforms slip away," said state Sen. Kevin Kelly.
GOP lawmakers want to classify a domestic violence killing as "murder with special circumstances."
Milford police say Julie Minogue's ex-boyfriend killed her with an ax. This upgraded charge would prevent suspects from getting out on bail and make them eligible for life in prison without parole.
