When voters go to the polls in the Democratic primary next week, they'll be deciding the outcome of a hotly contested race in Connecticut's 23rd senatorial district, which includes Bridgeport and part of Stratford.
The incumbent, freshman Sen. Herron Gaston, is running against Bridgeport City Councilman Ernie Newton, who failed to get on the ballot back in May when delegates voted 49 to 8 to nominate Gaston.
However, Newton eventually won a spot on the ballot by collecting more than 1,600 signatures.
Voters go to the polls on Aug.13.
