Supporters and opponents of gay rights descended on the state Capitol Wednesday to wait for the Senate's vote on a bill regarding same-sex marriage.
If approved, the legislation would guarantee equal protection for same-sex couples in Connecticut. However, people on both sides of the fence disagree about the meaning of bill.
"This bill is really meant just to clarify our statutes, to take out discriminatory language and to make clear what is still murky about the civil union law," says Stanback, executive director of Love Makes a Family.
Peter Wolfgang, executive director of the Family Institute of Connecticut, thinks the legislation touches upon an entirely different set of issues.
"This isn't really about same-sex marriage," he says. "It's about the rights of conscience and all the rest of us."
