The city of Bridgeport has come to terms on a new deal with the state that will allow state troopers to help patrol the Park City.
The agreement comes as Bridgeport has seen a sharp rise in gun violence this summer, including two reports of shots fired in the past 24 hours.
Gov. Dannel Malloy spent more than an hour with Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim and Police Chief AJ Perez today at the Troop G barracks. The Department of Justice and the FBI reportedly participated in the meeting as well.
After the meeting, Malloy announced that Bridgeport residents will immediately see a stepped-up presence of state police officers on the streets of the city, which will mean seeing the gray state police cruisers pulling up at crime scenes.
Officials also say they will have officers returning to patrol housing projects, after those patrols were canceled recently.
In just the past few weeks, an 18-year-old from Stamford was murdered, 13 people were shot at a house party and several gang-related shootings have been reported.
And overnight, police were called to the PT Barnum Housing complex for reports of shots fired. Just hours earlier, investigators were on Orange Street looking into another report of shots fired.
