More than 100 runners took part in an annual event Saturday that helps veterans get back on their feet and lead fulfilling lives.

The nonprofit Homes for the Brave held their annual Step Up for the Brave Challenge at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.

The goal was to raise money and awareness for veterans who are experiencing homelessness, hunger and mental health challenges.

The fitness event also raised critical funds for the nonprofit.
