A number of residents are voicing their disappointment with the state Supreme Court's rejection of a new Stew Leonard's site in Orange.

Stew Leonard's representatives say they had hoped to bring more than 400 jobs and $800,000 in tax revenue to Orange. That amount would have made the grocer the highest taxpayer in town.

"I think the opportunity for fresh veggies, fresh meat, fresh milk and really looking at it from economic point of view fresh jobs, fresh revenue," says Orange resident Harry Rosenberg.

The grocer is reviewing the court's decision before deciding how to proceed. Stew Leonard's says it was overturned on a technicality, citing its previous approval by the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Wetland Commission.

Orange First Selectman Jim Zioli says residents are split in their reactions.

"It's almost 50/50 with people's response," he says.
