Flooding that hit parts of Stamford Saturday forced the closure of some streets that were under seven inches of rain.

A portion of Elm Street was shut down for a few hours as authorities waited for floodwaters to recede. Stamford police also blocked off a section of the street that runs under the train overpass. At a Cherry Street automotive repair shop, owner George Kakaletris says he was left with ankle-deep water that was affecting his business.

"I'm not happy because basically we have a lot of work to do and I got to stop what we're doing ... to clean up all the mess here," he says.

Kakaletris says he faces the same problem every time it rains heavily in Stamford. He blames the city for not fixing a damaged drain pipe outside his shop.

"It's been like that for years," he says. "I believe the city is not going to do anything with it until they decide to do ? urban development here."

Stamford residents say they have never seen water rise as quickly as it did Saturday. However, since the storm slowed down, streets that were flooded have been reopened to traffic.
