A Fairfield University School of Nursing study shows a majority of parents surveyed in southwestern Connecticut admitted to letting their smartphones distract them while driving.
Linda Roney says she surveyed over 500 parents, grandparents and guardians. More than three-quarters of them admitted to using their phones to text, talk or email while driving children.
Fairfield Associate Professor of Counseling Dr. Tracey Robert says American adults know that distracted driving is illegal, but face the expectation of being increasingly productive.
Roney is hoping her study will prove to be a wake-up call, and is looking for funding to launch a campaign reminding adults to be responsible drivers.
