Employees at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk say they are trying to educate people about sharks even though they don't have any events tied directly to Discovery's "Shark Week."
The sharks at the aquarium are native to the Long Island Sound.
Sandi Schaefer-Padgett, the aquarium's senior aquarist, says their goal is to decrease some of the misconceptions and fears that people may have about sharks.
"We want to teach people how to do the best they can to conserve the environment and these animals' local habitat," she says. "Whatever way we can do that, whether it's making a connection through shark-feeding or an individual touching an animal, we try to do it in a variety of ways."
In addition to a live feeding of the sharks, divers go into the tank three times a week.
