For the first time, the two major party candidates for Connecticut governor were joined for a debate by independent candidate Oz Griebel.

Democrat Ned Lamont, Republican Bob Stefanowski and independent candidate Oz Griebel squared off Wednesday night at the University of Connecticut's main campus in Storrs.

Topics touched upon included education, medical marijuana, abortion laws and school resource officers.

Stefanowski and Lamont's talking points mirrored those from previous debates. Stefanowski said Lamont's economic policies would be the same as Gov. Dannel Malloy's. Meanwhile, Lamont argued Stefanowski's plan to cut $10 million from the state budget while making education a priority doesn't add up.

Griebel, a former businessman, said he offers an alternative choice for governor that focuses on people over politics.

Candidates for lieutenant governor will debate Thursday evening.
