Stamford police are searching for the shooter who killed a man in the city's South End over the weekend.
Police responded to reports of multiple gunshots shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday on Garden Street. They arrived to find 26-year-old Stephon Walthrust in the driver's seat of his car with several gunshot wounds.
Walthrust, of Queens, New York, was taken to Stamford Hospital, where he later died.
A neighbor who was home at the time says she heard the gunshots and the sirens that followed. She watched the response unfold from her window.
"I think there's beautiful, beautiful parts of Stamford but this area, right here where we're standing, I don't feel safe," she says.
Investigators say they are working to determine Walthrust's connection to Stamford. Police are asking anyone with information on the case to the call Major Crimes Office at 201-977-4420.
It marks the city's first homicide of the year. There were three homicides in 2018, and none in 2017.
