An Amber Alert was issued Wednesday afternoon for a missing 1-year-old girl from Ansonia as police investigate her mother's death.
On Monday afternoon, police say they received a call for a welfare check at the home on Myrtle Avenue. That's where they found the mother dead and the child, Venessa Morales, missing.
On Wednesday, police ruled the woman’s death a homicide, saying she died from blunt force trauma to the head. Authorities have not yet identified her publicly.
Police say the child’s father is not a suspect and is cooperating with police.
Multiple searches are underway on the local, state and federal level. Ansonia police Lt. Patrick Lynch says he believes this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ansonia Police Department at 203-735-1885.
