Police: 2 Bridgeport men arrested after attempting to steal $7,000 from missing wallet
Two Bridgeport men were arrested for attempting to steal thousands of dollars in cash at a local restaurant in Westport.
Police say Horace Rawlings was working at a Panera Bread restaurant on Post Road East in October when a customer left his wallet containing $7,000. They say Rawlings then called a second man, Rochelle Smith about the wallet.
A third man, who has not been arrested yet, came into the store with a box cutter and unsuccessfully attempted to rob the store.
Westport police say they will identify the third man once his arrest warrant is served.
Rawlings and Smith are accused of conspiring to formulate a plan for an associate of Smith's to come to the store and pretend to be the wallet's owner.
The unidentified suspect was unable to get into the office where the wallet was being held.
