Azteca on Pequonnock Avenue is serving traditional Mexican plates to Western Connecticut diners.
"It's a big variety of dishes. We actually come from Mexico City, and Mexico City is like the center of people from all over the republic come together there. So the taste of the food, it has fusion there and it's evolved a lot," says co-owner of Azteca David Vasquez.
The Vasquez family has sold imported Mexican delicacies from Azteca Mexican grocery on Pequonnock Avenue for decades.
And last year, they opened up Azteca restaurant right next door - to share their family recipes with its diners.
Vasquez says recipes, like the mole that's been in his mother's family for generations, take Mexican cuisine far beyond just tacos and burritos.
