Stew Leonard's and other stores will limit the amount of people allowed in its Norwalk store as COVID-19 cases in the city surpass 300.
Officials say if the fire marshal has set a store's maximum occupancy at 200, the maximum occupancy will now be 100.
Officials are also encouraging big stores to step up social distancing, and advising shoppers to not bring family members along if they can avoid it.
Families must now limit themselves to only one family member inside a store per visit, but there's exemptions for single parents and caregivers.
Walmart in Norwalk also began limiting the amount of shoppers allowed in its stores over the weekend.
Parks and beaches in Norwalk have also been closed to all vehicle traffic, Mayor Harry Rilling says.
Mayor Rilling says the police department's service calls have been down because of Gov. Ned Lamont's ‘Stay Safe, Stay Home’ order, which has allowed officers to enforce executive orders like limiting gatherings of people in recreational areas.
The mayor says he believes cases in Norwalk spiked because a lot of commuters live in the city and there are other communities nearby which have a high rate of infection.
Stamford now leads the areas of Connecticut with the most coronavirus cases, with 401 total cases.
