A Pennsylvania firefighter's possible sighting of a Connecticut man wanted in connection to two murders prompted a large police search but turned up nothing, officials say.
The multistate manhunt remains active in the search for 23-year-old Peter Manfredonia, a UConn student wanted in connection with the murder of 62-year-old Theodore Demers and 23-year-old Nicholas J. Eisele.
Police say he is wanted in connection to a Willington homicide on Friday and a Derby homicide that took place Sunday in Connecticut.
They say Manfredonia is considered to be armed and dangerous, and was last seen in Pennsylvania.
Duryea Boro Police Department wrote on its Facebook that a member of the fire department spotted a person matching Manfredonia's description hiding behind a dumpster at a picnic grounds.
Police say the person behind the dumpster ignored the firefighter when he asked him what he was doing behind the rear of the building, and then took off on foot.
The possible spotting prompted the launch of a police helicopter, and large police search of the wooded area and railroad tracks near the picnic grounds.
After several hours of searching the area, officers did not locate anyone, and they could not say if the person spotted by the firefighter was actaully Manfredonia.
An attorney for the family of Manfredonia held a press conference Monday, and pleaded for him to turn himself into authorities.
State police in Pennsylvania also released a surveillance image of Manfredonia wearing a large black-colored backpack while walking beside railroad tracks in East Stroudsburg, Monroe County on Sunday.
Police say he used an Uber, and was dropped off at a Walmart in town where it is believed he began walking.

Police believe Manfredonia may have stolen a black-colored Hyundai Santa Fe with PA license plate KYW-1650.
