The theater at Black Rock Turnpike closed its doors during the pandemic like many others across the state, but Fairfield Economic Development Director Mark Barnhart says when it was time to reopen, the theater never did.
The theater is owned by National Amusements who just closed its Bridgeport movie theater location down the street at the start of the year.
There are talks that the Bridgeport building will be converted into apartments.
Barnhart says the town is looking at a variety of options for the building.
"I wouldn't rule out some entertainment use for the future of that building," he says.
Fairfield Cinemas was around for nearly three decades, and is the last movie theater in town.
The Community Theater downtown was vacant for several years before Kleban Properties bought it.
Sacred Heart University is now leasing out the old theater.
News 12 reached out to National Amusements about the closing and they say the decision to close the theater was based on business.
