The Bridgeport community is reeling after two homicides and multiple shootings took place over the weekend.
Friday night, police say 25-year-old George John, of Shelton, was shot in the chest around 11:30 p.m. Police say he was brought to the hospital by his girlfriend, where he passed away around midnight.
Around midnight Saturday, police say officers were called to Hanover Street where they found a 24-year-old man dead with apparent gunshot wounds.
Police say they don't believe the homicides are connected.
They say that during a vigil Saturday night in memory of George John, located in the same place he was shot on Howard Avenue, three men were shot. Police say the men are expected to make a full recovery.
City Councilman Jorge Cruz says gun crime prevention starts at home.
Cruz wrote a resolution to declare gun violence be considered a public health crisis. He says he will present it at the next council meeting on Sept. 8.
Anyone with information on the shootings is asked to call the Bridgeport Police Department.
