Gov. Ned Lamont signed an executive order Friday that allows the state Department of Education to require masks to be worn in class.

Under the order, commissioners of early childhood and education may issue operational rules in consultation with the commissioner of public health.

These rules include the wearing of masks or face coverings for the operation of schools or child care settings.

The order also extended the previously enacted prohibition on the sale of alcohol by certain permittees that do not sell food through at least Sept. 26.

This is the 69th executive order the governor has signed since he's enacted the emergency declarations.
