A Stratford mechanical contractor is hosting a contest to give away home heating help for the holidays.
Main Enterprises is hosting the contest to give a needy family a free overhaul of their heating system. The company is accepting letters from contest entrants, and many of them outline cold circumstances that would benefit from the Gift of Warmth prize.
"I'm freezing as I'm sitting here writing this," wrote one single mother of three. "Once again, our furnace is not working."
"My mom is a single parent on disability, and we could not afford to purchase a new one," another letter read.
The family will be chosen later this week.
"We've been fortunate enough to have a good year," says Ed Wolf, the president of Main Enterprises. "Hopefully everyone here is doing well with the company. We had a successful year. To be able to give to a complete stranger in an hour of need will make everyone feel good."
Employees say if some households need only small repairs, they will help with that too.
