Stratford's Town Council rejected a new contract with firefighters last night.
Council members say the decision was based on the need to clarify whether heart and hypertension benefits can be included under compensation.
As of now, only firefighters hired after 1996 can receive disability if heart problems occur during a call.
The president of Stratford Firefighters Union would not comment while negotiations are still being made.
