There's controversy in Stratford over plans to sell a water pollution control plant.

The town decided on Thursday night to go forward with the sale of the Water Pollution Control Authority to the Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority. Several people in town say they aren't happy about it.

Opponents say the sale will end up costing them money and it could cost more than a dozen people their jobs. They have been protesting the decision at rallies and online, with a petition that they say has garnered hundreds of signatures.

Mayor John Harkins says the employees won't be let go and that the sale will ultimately save taxpayers money.

Opponents say they are hoping to hold a referendum to reverse the sale.
