Student run vegetable market returns at Concord Magnet School
Students collect data, create advertising and even request a startup loan as part of the long standing learning tradition.

Concord Magnet School’s annual vegetable market is up and running, continuing a tradition that has been part of the Norwalk school for about forty years. First‑graders lead the project, which blends math, science, reading and art while serving the entire school community.
As part of the work, students send a survey to all classes to learn what types of produce their peers want. They collect and analyze the responses to decide what to order, then break into committees to handle different responsibilities.
First‑grade teacher Stephanie Habasinski said the students take ownership of the process, explaining that they gather data, create advertising materials and even approach the principal for a loan to help launch the market.
School staff say parent volunteers are also a big help in running the market each year.
