Surviving passenger in Bridgeport police shooting files lawsuit
A lawyer for Julian Fyffe, the passenger wounded in a Bridgeport police-involved shooting that also left a teen dead, has filed a lawsuit against the city, its police chief and several officers in connection to the incident.
The lawsuit alleges that the officers did not follow the department's standard police protocol when pulling over a car driven by Jayson Negron, the 16-year-old who was killed in the altercation. It also claims the officers violated Negron and Fyffe's Fourth and 14th Amendment rights.
At least one of the officers fired multiple shots into Negron and Fyffe without justification, the complaint says. It goes on to accuse the officers of handcuffing the teen and young man and leaving them on the ground bleeding without providing medical assistance for their bullet wounds.
The lawsuit even goes as far as to accuse Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez of trying to cover up the details of the shooting.
As News 12 has reported, Negron's family claims that police told them a version of events that appeared to be contradicted by a video taken after the incident. That video has since gone viral online, and News 12 has chosen not to air it due to its graphic content.
News 12 Connecticut was not immediately able to contact Bridgeport police for a response to the lawsuit's allegations.
