The third annual Fairfield County Race for the Cure will kick off this weekend to raise money for breast cancer research.
Survivors, patients and their supporters plan to participate.
Geordan Mandell, of Stamford, first ran in last year's race after being diagnosed with stage one breast cancer at 28 years old.
Her co-workers at a Greenwich-based hedge fund organized a team and rallied around her, she says.
She has since had several rounds of chemotherapy and eventually decided to undergo a bilateral mastectomy. Over the past year, she has had six surgeries.
Mandell says she is now in remission, and organizers have made her the face of this year's race.
She says that she hopes to rally others to her cause by sharing her story and remaining positive.
