A suspicious package containing an unknown substance caused the evacuation of Spring Valley Village Hall and the Spring Valley Police Department Tuesday.
The Rockland County hazmat team, Spring Valley Fire Department and Spring Valley police were all on the scene as a safety precaution.
"From a public safety perspective, we always assume it's a danger first. Let the public know, keep everybody safe, until we learn otherwise," says Spring Valley Police Chief Richard Olecszczuk.
Police were also alerted Monday about a suspicious package delivered to a Jewish private school in Spring Valley. The package contained a substance wrapped in multiple plastic bags.
"The substance was looked at, it was brought to the police, and it was logged into evidence," says Olecszczuk.
The headquarters was reopened shortly after 1 p.m.
Officials tell News 12 the unknown substance is being tested.
