For families looking for a winter adventure, River Quest is a wildlife cruise along the Connecticut River.
This is an opportunity to get out on the water in the winter and look and see what sort of wildlife is on the lower Connecticut River, including eagles. In the 1970s, there were no nesting Bald Eagles left in Connecticut. Thanks to intensive conservation efforts, the bird has made a marvelous comeback.
The eagles used to fly down from Massachusetts since the river would be ice-free and they could hunt for fish.
Visitors can grab a boat and ride the river taking in the scenery and wildlife. Trip organizers offer binoculars on board for not only spotting eagles, but also other birds like common loons and red throated Lewis.
Tickets for the Connecticut River Eagle Cruise also include admission into the CT River Museum. Click here for more information.
