A late pastor's wife inspired a group of young girls this weekend to compete on stage.
News 12's Gwen Edwards served as master of ceremonies at the Ruth C. White Cinderella Ball at the Sheraton Stamford Hotel on Saturday night.
The Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church organized the event in honor of Ruth White, who was known for youth outreach in the community.
"She worked throughout Connecticut," said Annie Brevard, who chaired the event. "She always liked to work with young people, young girls in particular, and she was all about education."
Six girls competed for the title. They each had to write an essay, perform in a talent competition and take part in a Q-and-A segment.
The winner, Sierra Smith, is a freshman at the Academy of Information Technology and Engineering in Stamford.
