Tenants at a Yonkers apartment building say they're fed up with conditions inside their trash room.

Carmen Marty says she's lived at 107 Van Cortlandt Park Avenue for years. However, she and several other tenants say they are tired of what they call unsanitary conditions in their trash room.

"Garbage is not being put out when it's supposed to be put out, the hallways are disgusting," Marty says.

Tenants claim the problem has been going on for about a year because the room allegedly is not being cleaned out regularly.

"The trash, I'm on the second floor, it's usually up to the level of my floor," Marty says.

While the room looked cleaner when News 12 visited on Wednesday, tenants say the trash usually overflows, attracts bugs, and creates an odor that they find embarrassing.

"It's like you live next to a sewer plant...Like, I'm ashamed to have people visit me," says another tenant.

Tenants believe the issue may be tied to the lack of a permanent superintendent.

"When the old super was there, between him and his wife, they kept the building well maintained," says the other tenant.

If the problem persists, Marty says she might take action.

"At the moment, I'm thinking about holding the rent until this gets straightened out," Marty says.

In the meantime, tenants say they have simple message for management.

"Get a super. Get a super. Pay him. Maybe it will be a happy super doing his job correctly," says the other tenant.

We reached out to Golden Gate Management for comment, but haven't heard back yet.
