The hearing to determine if Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel will receive a new trial wrapped up Wednesday. Skakel was convicted in 2002 for Martha Moxley?s 1975 beating death. He is serving 20 years to life in prison.

The state called its witnesses, mainly people who say they did not see Tony Bryant, a former classmate of Skakel's, in the Belle Haven neighborhood of Greenwich the night Moxley was murdered. Bryant claims his two friends are the ones who killed Moxley.

Skakel's lawyers must prove there is new evidence available now that was not part of the original trial. They must also prove that it would likely have impacted the jury's verdict. The decision on whether or not to grant Skakel a new trial is not expected until at least this fall. Before the decision is made, all legal briefs must be filed and the judge will have to review all evidence from the trial appeal.
