The Classics Bronx Club and its stable of suped-up bicycles is pedaling ahead strong after 20 years and counting.
The elaborately modified bikes each represent the personal flair of their owners, says group founder Carlos Ramos, and they don't pollute or burn gas like motorcycles and cars.
Members must pass an observance test to fall in line behind the wheels, according to Ramos. Prospective members are taken on a test ride to see whether they obey traffic rules like no passing through red lights and riding single file.
Once they make the cut, members say building up the bicycles can be expensive.
