After the pandemic shut down a local nonprofit, organizers found an opportunity to fill a need for many who felt shut out.
The Porch at Christie's in Westport has been providing job opportunities to more than 12 adults with disabilities. Another six work at the Sweet P Bakery in Norwalk, a nonprofit where many of them got their start.
Sweet P Bakery, which provides all the baked goods sold at The Porch, says there is over 80% unemployment in the U.S. among adults with disabilities in the food service industry.
One of their signature-baked goods is called the colossal chocolate chip cookie.
The Porch hosted the Sweet P bakers for lunch Friday so they can see how the whole community is enjoying their product.
