A Vietnam War memorial left Sherwood Island in Westport Tuesday and is headed to Bridgeport's Veterans Memorial Park where it will be on display for a four-day stop.
The Wall That Heals is a traveling replica of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam War monument and has been displayed in nearly 700 communities throughout the country.
Veterans say the exhibit helps people cope with the prospect of facing it – and doing do in their own community.
"It enables veterans of Vietnam, their family…to come in and actually heal," says Brian Turco, the executive officer at Port 5 National Association of Veterans. "It's a healing process, especially for the veterans that were treated so bad when they got home from Vietnam in the 60s and 70s which was absolutely terrible."
The Wall That Heals will be displayed at Veterans Memorial Park, 4450 Park Ave., Bridgeport from Sept. 26 -29. It will be open to the public.
