A trio of best friends are making it their mission to give back to the community that raised them.
Michael Silva, Jordan Teixeira and Jian Carlo Porro are all from Bridgeport and met on the first day of kindergarten at John Winthrop Elementary School.
"We've all been best friends since then," said Jordan Teixeira, co-founder of The Winthrop Project nonprofit.
Each of them are pursuing higher education and wanted to find a way to give back to their hometown.
"Our biggest focus is providing a new perspective. Providing events, mainly holiday events to inner city youth. Give them a good time, give them memories that last a lifetime," said SIlva.
The idea is to host events that drive donations. Back in October, they organized a Halloween Trick-or-Treat event where the proceeds went to Bridgeport Youth Lacrosse Sports Academy.
They are currently holding a Thanksgiving drive to collect canned foods and nonperishable items. The drop-off location is at the North Branch Library in Bridgeport.
They will also put together a clothing holiday drive on Dec. 14 and are raising money to give stuffed animals to children's hospitals.
