Dive teams continued combing the water Tuesday for the bodies of two missing swimmers in Connecticut’s largest lake.
State authorities say two males, aged 26 and 38, did not return to a boat they were on after they jumped into the water late Monday night.
“This is a tragedy,” said Danbury Fire Chief Richard Thode. He also said details about the incident are still unfolding.
After suspending the search around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, dive teams restarted the search with additional divers and resources just a few hours later.
“Because we had some witnesses, we know generalized where to look,” Chief Thode says. “In the area of City Island – that’s where they’re concentrating their efforts”
With the investigation still ongoing, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is advising the public to avoid the area.
