More than 5,000 people came out to support the 28th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Westport on Sherwood Island.
The group walked a 5K around the island to support those living with breast cancer, and those who survived.
"This is like the biggest support group you'll ever find on the planet and as a survivor it is so exciting to be surrounded by other survivors and be surrounded by the community," says Erin Nielsen, one of the organizers of the event.
Some participants have been attending the event for years and many of them have their own personal stories and connections to the cause.
"We see survivors...I'm a 4-year survivor, and there are survivors here that are 30, 40-year survivors...and that just brings so much hope to people like myself," says Nielsen.
Over 200 breast cancer survivors participated in this year's walk.
