New York Catholics welcomed Timothy Dolan Wednesday as he was installed as archbishop at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan.
The ceremony began with a procession of Catholic clergy members into the cathedral before retiring Archbishop Edward Egan gave his blessings to his successor.
The Pope's envoy to the United States, Archbishop Pietro Sambi, read the official letter appointing Dolan to the position. Dolan then took his place as the leader of the Archdiocese of New York.
In his homily, Dolan emphasized the importance of immigrants in the Church. He also repeated his prayers in Spanish to honor Hispanic Catholics.
Sister Rosa Valadez, of the Bronx, read a passage from the Acts of the Apostles during the Mass, further demonstrating Dolan's passion for including immigrants and Spanish speakers in the Church.
