A pirate ship decoration that has been a staple at a home in Monroe is now the target of complaints.
Jennifer Palmieri says she decorates the pirate ship for every holiday. Palmieri says she does it because she just wants to spread joy and happiness, especially during these tough times.
Every year when people drive by 35 Oak Wood Drive in Monroe they always see plenty of holiday decorations.
"Most people love it," says Palmieri. "It's up 365 and gets decorated for every single holiday."
However, Palmieri says there's a Grinch in the neighborhood who filed a complaint with the town.
"It's there for more joy than the ones that don't seem to like it, one or two maybe," says Palmieri. "But I've gotten hundreds and hundreds of outpouring - you know, comments and testimonials. I couldn't be happier with the support I've gotten knowing that what I'm doing is making those people happy. It's not just about me but it's the community."
Palmieri says she's been given a citation by the town that says she has to pay a $150 a day for every day that she keeps the ship on her property. Palmieri says she plans to fight.
