A woman was fatally struck by an Amtrak train at the Stratford station Wednesday morning.
Metro-North says it happened shortly after 8 a.m.
Officials say the person was trespassing on the tracks when she was hit by the Boston-bound train.
Police have not determined why the victim was on the tracks, only saying that she had no authorization to be there.
Service was briefly stopped between New Haven and Bridgeport while police investigated.
A Metro-North spokesperson says the state Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining the tracks, including any construction to create protective barriers.
