The third trial of a man accused of killing his girlfriend and cutting up her body in 2013 began today in Bridgeport.

Jermaine Richards, 34, allegedly killed Alyssiah Wiley, a 20-year-old West Haven woman, after she broke up with him. His first two trials ended with deadlocked juries.

Police say Wiley was last seen alive in April 2013 on surveillance video taken outside her dorm at Eastern Connecticut State University, where she was a sophomore. 

EastConn's chief of police testified that the images show Wiley entering Richards' 2009 Nissan Ultima.

Investigators later found her remains in Trumbull, a few miles from Richards' home.

Prosecutors called Wiley's college friends to the witness stand in a bid to paint Richards as controlling. They say she was often on her phone or texting, and that she would explain to them it was with her boyfriend.

Wiley's mother says she hopes the third trial results in a conviction. She says her other daughter and granddaughter were both killed last month in a domestic dispute in Waterbury.
