Trial begins for West Haven suspect in grocery store murder
A trial began Tuesday for a West Haven man charged in the killing of a popular Bridgeport grocery store owner three years ago.
Police say Treizy Lopez and Leighton Vanderberg killed Jose Salgado over a few dollars in the cash register.
Authorities say Salgado was closing his store with his wife on Lexington Avenue in 2015 when the pair robbed and killed him.
Last year, Vanderberg pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
