(04/01/08) MILFORD ? A proposed protest by independent truck drivers in southwestern Connecticut never really got out of first gear.
Truck drivers across the U.S. and in the state were supposed to pull their rigs off the road Tuesday to protest the high cost of diesel. At the Pilot in Milford, diesel is selling for $4.17 a gallon. Many independent drivers, who have to pay costs out of their own pockets, say it can cost as much as $1,000 to fill their tanks.
The final outcome had mixed results. While some took part in the activities, many independent drivers say they just couldn't afford to give up a day of work. Some also felt their protest wouldn't spark the change that?s necessary to help their bottom lines.
