Trumbull police are looking for whoever vandalized a painting at the town's library.
Town officials say it happened during a meeting Wednesday night to discuss the future of the painting, which is part of a current exhibit.
The painting, called "Onward We March," sparked some controversy since it depicts Mother Teresa, who was pro-life, with Planned Parenthood founder and pro-choice advocate Margaret Sanger, as well as other women associated with the women's movement.
Witnesses say they saw a woman draw on Sanger's face.
First Selectman Timothy Herbst says he was horrified when he saw what had happened during the meeting. He says the painting's owner has agreed not to sue the town over the damage.
Police are looking for a woman in her 30s with short brown hair.
The painting is worth about $10,000 and was not insured prior to being vandalized.
Library staff declined to comment to News 12 Connecticut on the issue.
