Connecticut's congressional
delegation called on the Trump administration to free up $3 million in grant
money being held back due to the state's policy on transgender athletes.
The policy allows athletes to
compete against the gender with which they identify.
It is currently the subject
of a lawsuit filed by families who say their daughters lost out on scholarships
because they were forced to compete against stronger, faster athletes.
The U.S. Department of
Education wants two school districts to essentially promise they won't
participate in sports until that policy is changed.
The delegation calls the
department's actions “an unprecedented overreach."
