Turn of River Middle School students are using their year-end project to teach fourth and fifth graders STEM skills.
The eighth grade students, Pranay Sen, Georgiy Zemlevskiy, Aarin Basu and Rohan Sahu were asked to plan and execute a service project in small groups.
They say they were planning on supporting education with a restaurant fundraiser, but the pandemic forced them to pivot. Instead, the boys decided to teach younger students advanced STEM skills.
Their teacher, Jay DeFelippo, says the young educators managed to find 12 students who signed up for twice-weekly classes. They even extended the class to eight weeks instead of four weeks.
They say molding young minds is its own reward.
