British authorities have identified the suspected suicide bomber at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester that left at least 22 people, including children, dead and 59 others injured as Salman Abedi.

Among the 22 victims were an 8-year-old girl and a 18-year-old woman.

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but American officials have not yet confirmed its involvement.

According to officials, Abedi, 22, set off an improvised explosive device outside the arena as people were leaving the concert. Abedi died in the attack. A European security official told the Associated Press that Abedi was a British citizen of Libyan descent. 

The Manchester police chief constable is calling it the most horrific incident greater Manchester has ever faced. He's treating the incident as an act of terror.

Police are looking into whether Abedi worked alone or as part of a network. They conducted at least two raids so far as part of the investigation, including one on the place where Abedi was believed to have lived. Police also arrested a 23-year-old man at a nearby supermarket but released no details about him.

Officials in Manchester say that despite the attack, the city remains open for business. Thousands of people there rallied for a prayer vigil Tuesday in honor of the victims.
