Con Edison is still on the scene Friday after an underground fire in one Bronx neighborhood sent manholes flying into the air.

The manholes were in the area of 173rd Street and Hoe Avenue. Fire officials say the underground fire also released dangerous levels of carbon monoxide into the air. Three people in nearby buildings were taken to hospitals for treatment.

The Office of Emergency Management says eight manholes were involved and four had fires under them. Con Edison is still investigating the cause of the explosions. No one lost power as a result of the fires.
